phactMI Executive Spotlight: Mary Sendi, President of the Board of Directors
As part of our phactMI Executive Spotlight series, we spoke with the President of the phactMI Board of Directors, Mary Sendi.
phactMI: Please describe your job as the North America Medical Information Regional Lead at Pfizer.
Mary: I am proud to lead our Canada and United States Medical Information operations — medical customer interface and therapy area teams. My North America Medical Information team makes my job easy. I work with 40+ colleagues within my region, as well as numerous colleagues across our global organization, who are inquisitive and passionate about the science of medicine, health care, patient care and much more. They inspire me to continually be bold and lead with courage and excellence. Pfizer’s purpose is our north star that motivates every single colleague — Breakthroughs that change patient lives.
phactMI: How long have you been a member of phactMI, and what led you to become involved?
Mary: Pfizer was a founding member of phactMI. I was excited to get involved and contribute to advancing phactMI’s mission and vision. I have been involved at the committee level from the inception in 2013. Key initiatives that I contributed to over the years include developing the Medical Information Code of Practice, co-authoring the External Value of Medical Information manuscript, researching the Clinical Impact of Medical Information, and mentoring fellow phactMI members. As a pharmacist by education/training, I took an oath to apply my knowledge, experience, and skills to the best of my ability to assure optimal outcomes for patients. My Pfizer colleagues and phactMI peers inspire me to learn and do more for our profession and patients.
phactMI: Please describe your role as President of the Board of Directors at phactMI.
Mary: I was very excited to be elected as the 2021–2022 phactMI President of the Board of Directors. I am surrounded by highly engaged phactMI members, board of directors, and project management office teams. The passion and drive of these colleagues is quite inspiring! Today, healthcare professionals have a wide range of medical information needs. As phactMI pharmaceutical medical information leaders, we are dedicated to supporting HCPs (healthcare professionals) in their commitment to provide quality patient care.
phactMI: What value do you see the phactMI organization bringing to its member companies?
Mary: Today, phactMI is 32 member companies strong! The value I have come to appreciate over this year is that I have 32 thought partners who challenge each other’s thinking and provoke all to innovate! Together, we aspire and inspire each other to collectively be thought leaders for our profession.
phactMI: Involvement in phactMI has been a priority for Pfizer; your company has 19 members. Why has Pfizer leadership encouraged your med info staff to join?
Mary: Pfizer MI has prioritized phactMI. Together, Pfizer MI and phactMI are transforming the delivery and accessibility of medical information through first-of-its-kind industry collaboration, delivering medical information to HCPs at a time when it is paramount. A key Pfizer Value is Joy — We give ourselves to our work, and it also gives to us. Pfizer MI colleagues are eager to contribute to phactMI and learn from other MI professionals from across the industry. Both organizations are on an exciting journey and Pfizer MI colleagues are ready to make a difference that benefit HCPs and patients. One of my favorite quotes is from Henry Ford and appropriate to this topic, “Coming together is the beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success”.
phactMI: What value does phactMI currently provide to healthcare professionals, and what are your long-term goals for phactMI related to this?
Mary: HCPs now have one access point to search for and obtain current, evidence-based, drug information to support clinical decision-making on multiple manufacturer products (www.phactmi.org). phactMI has worked very hard over the past several years to develop a unique value proposition for healthcare professionals — a “one stop shop” for their medical information needs. Over the long term, I hope that HCP awareness and usage of this service will increase, particularly as we are able to expand our content offerings within the site and into other respected HCP resources. Doing well together… for patients!
Thanks to Mary for this insightful discussion!
